Giving Advice Based On Mr. M's Lecture

Last week, I listened to Mr. M's lecture, he is an English teacher at junior high school in Japan. His advices are very useful for me and people who want to be a teacher, so I tell you about the information you'll need to work at a school.

Fast, in junior high school, English makes a point of "communication". You may think communication has only conversation, but it's a mistake. Writing and reading are also important for "communication".

Secoondly, before you teach , it is important to decide goals of each subjects through the three years. You should think what skills do you want students to learn in three years. If you do so, you will be able to think classes'contents easily.

Hi, fantasista!
I think communication is important, too.
By the way, are you going to observe his English class this Friday?

Hello. I'm an ALT in Iwate prefecture. I'd like to add my opinion to your post. Mr. M, in your post, mentioned that not only is conversation important in communication, but also reading and writing. I agree, and I also want to strongly stress listening.

Some may say that listening is a part of conversation, and that is true. But consider the following dialogs:
"What's your name?" "My name is Ken."
Or "Are they playing baseball?" "No, they're not."
Sure, these dialogs require listening skills. But the kind of listening I'm talking about is comprehension listening. It requires students to listen to a dialog (often including words the student does not know) and sort out the most important parts as it concerns them. This communication is not a conversation, but simply pure listening.

So I would like to add listening as being an important part of communication.

Thanks for your time!
